Charity Events 2018
As a club, last year we took part in two charity events for a local charity called GeeWizz that helps individuals who are affected by cancer, particularly Sarcoma. With the money the charity raises, it provides specialist equipment such as electric wheelchairs, electric beds and many other items to those who need it most in the Suffolk and Norfolk regions.
Firstly on the 31st May, a mixed netball tournament took place at Culford School. We brought two teams – the Finborough Falcons and the Finborough Phoenix and played three 15 minute games in the group stages. Both teams came out as the top of their groups; which meant they then played each other in the quarter-finals. The game was very close throughout, however, Finborough Phoenix managed to pull through for the win, knocking out the Finborough Falcons. Finborough Phoenix followed this by winning their semi-final match to move onto the finals.
Finborough Phoenix then took to the court one final time with the sideline support from the Finborough Falcons. It took a while to settle because people had changed positions and the other team’s goalkeeper was tall so passes needed to be thought through carefully. The team adapted very well and steamed ahead to win the tournament!
This was then followed on the 19th July 2018 by GeeWizz running a Rounders Tournament. This event was something a bit different, especially when some players hadn’t played Rounders before. Despite this, the mixed team managed to come 2nd out of a total of 18 teams, proving that they can turn their hands to more than just Netball!
